Far From the Tree, Yet Blooming

Charming Hostess sings Spring songs about Mary, Brigid, Esther, and various other interesting people from faraway places. And some near places too. We are joined by the brilliant duo of Ben Goldberg (clarinet) and Rob Reich (accordion), also drawing from traditional music and its relationship to other forms and fancies. There is sooooo much great music to hear this week from Las Kumbia Queers to Anthony Russell, so let's bloom out and go to everything! We'll see you there…at everything.

P.S. Here's some new music from a Charming Hostess spinoff, The Luckies. The repertoire is mostly music that was first recorded during The Great Depression. Times were terribly difficult and Americans needed songs that expressed the hardship in their lives and also helped them transcend it. Here's a song about a very contemporary concern, with words by Woody Guthrie: Vigilante Mant: http://vimeo.com/83454045
